Credentialing is a multistep process that involves many disconnected entities and requires the following:
- At least 15 data elements from each provider
- Manual, paper-based data exchange between providers and payers
- Mandatory repetition of the entire process—every two years for providers and every three years for payers
- A long approval process taking 90 to 180 or more days
Providers work with an average of 25 payers, each requiring information that is submitted in specific formats. There are nearly 1 million providers in the United States. You do the math. That’s a lot of time and effort that could otherwise be spent on care.
